Set up CallReady

  1. Open CallReady. Its icon appears in the menu bar. CallReady has no Dock icon.
  2. Click the icon. To use Next call, click Allow calendar access, then click Allow in the macOS dialog.
  3. Choose Settings… in the CallReady menu. In the Next call section, select the calendars that contain your calls.
  4. In the Microphone section, choose your preferred microphone and add backup microphones in order. To change the default input now, click Set as default input next to a microphone in the list. A Bluetooth microphone moves back to the preferred microphone unless you choose Allow Bluetooth mic for 1 hour in the menu.
  5. The menu bar shows a short label: a microphone icon (crossed out when you are muted) and the time to your next call, for example "4m" or "now". With no call in the next 12 hours, it shows only the icon. The full status line is in the menu. To show more in the menu bar, change Settings > Next call > Menu bar shows.
  6. In the Mute section, check the shortcut. The default is Shift-Option-M. Turn on push-to-talk if you want to hold the shortcut while you speak.
  7. Optional: turn on Open CallReady at login.

Questions

Why is there no Join button?

The event has no supported meeting link. CallReady looks for Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Webex links in the event URL, location and notes. Add the link to one of these fields in your calendar app.

My calling app still uses my AirPods microphone. Why?

Some calling apps select their own microphone and ignore the system default input. In the audio settings of the calling app, set the microphone to "Same as System" or "Default". Then CallReady can control it.

CallReady shows Muted, but people can still hear me.

CallReady mutes the system default input. If your calling app uses a different microphone, that microphone is not muted. Set the calling app to the system default input, as in the question above.

My microphone has no mute control. What does CallReady do?

Some devices do not support a hardware mute. For these devices, CallReady sets the input volume to zero. When you unmute, it restores the level it remembered for that device, or half volume if it has no remembered level. If a device supports neither mute nor input volume, CallReady says so and asks you to choose another microphone.

CallReady changed my microphone back, but I want to use my headset now.

To keep using the headset microphone, open the CallReady menu and choose Allow Bluetooth mic for 1 hour. Or turn off Put my preferred microphone back when Bluetooth takes over in Settings > Microphone. A Bluetooth microphone cannot be added to the order of preferred microphones.

Does CallReady record or listen to my calls?

No. CallReady never opens an audio stream. It changes only which microphone is the default, its mute state and, for a microphone without a mute control, its input volume.

How do I remove CallReady?

Choose Quit CallReady from the CallReady menu, then move CallReady from the Applications folder to the Trash.
